Instrumentation Engineering is the choice of those who are passionate for challenging
career and who like regular upgrading with latest equipment technology. It basically
deals with the electric devices and falls under the electrical and electronic engineering.

Courses available in Instrumentation Engineering:
Courses are available in different stages. Diploma, Bachelor Degree, Master Degree
and Doctoral are the major programs. Many universities and Institutions are offering
the stream. The subject can be chosen with any of the combination of control Engineering,
Bio-medical signal processing and Applied Electronics to seize better opportunities.
The basic eligibility for a diploma is passing in class 10. There are several Diploma
programs offered by Poly-technical colleges and technical institutes with combinations
like Electronics or process control, besides just Instrumental Engineering.
For Bachelor degree, passing in 10 + 2 with mathematics and science subjects and
the score in the entrance test are considered. Qualifying Joint Entrance Exam (JEE)
is compulsory for IIT. It is a 4 years course.
The Bachelor degree in the stream along with the score in GATE is considered for
Post Graduation in many colleges. Further higher education like Doctoral programs
are also offered by many universities.

For the in-service people, a Bachelor engineering program in the discipline is offered
in distance mode by Associate Membership Examination of the Institute of Engineers
(AMIE).
Prospect of career:
Many companies require Instrumental Engineer for upgrading, retaining or developing
the controlling systems to improve productivity and safety of the process. The organizations
expect the related personnel to be skilled in trouble –shooting, ability to work
in flexible hours and knowledge of computer applications.
Though there are openings for Diploma holders, Bachelor degree gives scope for better
opportunities. The combinations are given preference for recruitment.

There are many Government and Non-Government bodies providing prospect for the career

Choosing Lectureship in colleges and universities is another option. There are different
roles in teaching field like lecturer or Professor in polytechnic or engineering
colleges. Qualifying in CSIR NET is essential to enter the field. It gives a great
scope for research.
Initiating individual business or obtaining MBA allows being a part of Management.
The pay for the beginners, after Bachelor Degree, starts with minimum 1.2 lakhs
per annum. The seniors are paid with higher range. Most of the experienced go for
the superior options.
