In the present scenario, India has a great requirement of trained teachers. For
those who have zeal in teaching with the fortes like patience in dealing the children
and expertise in the subject, teacher training is a good career option which helps
to enrich the teaching skills.
Different categories of Teacher Training:
Teacher training can be opted in different stages.
a. Diploma (D.Ed.): For those who wish to become Primary Teacher. The eligibility
is completion of 10 + 2 or equivalent. It is a two year regular course.
b. Graduation (B.Ed.): For the Graduates who wish to be a Secondary Teacher. The
course is offered in regular and distance learning modes. It is one year program.
But few universities are proposing to modify it into two years. A four-year integrated
degree program B.EI.Ed (The Bachelor of Elementary Education) can be opted after
10 + 2.
c. Post Graduation (M.Ed.): Those who have completed B.Ed are eligible for M.Ed.
It helps the advancement in the field. The degree can be pursued in regular mode
and in distance mode.
What are taught in the training program?
The programs basically consider improving the teaching techniques and introducing
different approaches of teaching. The programs also focus on: to expertise in evaluation
techniques, pedagogy, classroom management, school management etc. Specialization
subjects are to be opted from the range of offered subjects along with the common
papers. The pursuers are examined through theoretical and practical examinations.
Scope of the Career:
According to Various Boards of the school education, every school must recruit only
trained teachers for the improvement of quality education. Central government and
State Government recruit teachers through a written test followed by an interview.
Central Government schools like Kendriya Vidyalaya, Navodaya recruit individually
through notification. Local Secondary school boards of the states recruit commonly
for all the state government schools of the state.
PRT (Primary Teacher), TGT (Trained Graduate Teacher), PGT (Post Graduate Teacher),
Head Master, Principal are the major cadres of the recruitment. For TGT, the qualification
is TET (Teacher Eligibility Test) or CTET (Central Teacher Eligibility Test) besides
B.Ed. and the graduation in the relevant subject and for PGT, B.Ed and Master Degree
in the relevant subject.
Along with the Government bodies, private schools share a major part in the recruitment.
Though the schools are recognized by different boards, the requisite qualification
of the teachers remains same.
Apart from teaching in schools, the stream offers career opportunities in Tutoring,
Online tutoring, Academic counseling etc.
Payment:
The scales in the Government schools are in five digits in the starting range. Though
the private institutes pay lesser than Government bodies, the opportunities are
comparatively more. Schools organized by the reputed companies also offer a fixed
scale.
