The textile technology is needed in various fields with various requirements. Medical field requires bandages, gloves antifungal cloths and artificial skin etc., Firemen need the fabric which could protect them from heat and people work in construction or in mines need the fabric which suits their work. Even the astronauts need suitable fabric which fulfills the requirements. Thus, the research and development in the field is in pace which is creating a gateway to the huge employment.

Diploma, Graduation and Post Graduation courses are available in the stream.
Diploma and Post Graduate Diploma courses are offered by several polytechnic colleges and textile design institutes. The eligibility is passing in 10 + 2 or equivalent. Diploma or Degree in the relevant field is the eligibility for Post Graduate Diploma. National Institute of Design, Annai J.K.K. Sampoorani Ammal polytechnic college, College of Erode, Assam Textile Institute of Gawhati, Bapuji Polytechnic of Davangere and Central Polytechnic college of Trivandrum are few of the colleges offering the Diploma. Few institutes, like ALT Training College, are offering a course in Computer Aided Textile and Garment Designing.
B.Des. (Textile Design), B.E. and B.Tech are the popular Bachelor degrees. Passing in 10+2 and the score in the conducted entrance test is the eligibility criteria. NIFT, IIT Delhi, Asia Pacific Institute of Information Technology, Anuradha Engineering college of Buldana, College of Engineering and Technology of Bhubaneswar, Institute of Jute Technology of Kolkata and College of Engineering Textile Technology of Hooghly are few of the colleges offering Bachelor program.
M.Sc., M.E. and M.Tech are the programs in Post Graduation. The offering institutes are J D Institute of
Fashion Technology, Institute of Chemical Technology of Wadala, PSG College of Technology of Coimbatore, The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda of Vadodara and Anna University of Chennai etc.
Job Prospect:
Textile industry basically consist the departments of spinning, weaving, processing and trading. The Diploma holders are usually recruited in the departments. The Graduates and Post Graduates are appointed as Managers, Textile designers, Production Managers or Supervisors or Marketing Executives. There are also opportunities in researching. Textile Chemical Processing, Fabric Manufacturing Laboratory, Textile Testing Laboratories, Computers and Microprocessors Labs, Yarn Manufacturing Laboratories, Fiber production laboratories in different fields related majorly to medical, agro and geo textiles give the scope of researching.
Designing studios, Textile mills, Handloom Cooperatives and export houses are few of the major recruiting bodies. Researching enthusiasts can target a fellowship by undergoing UGC CSIR National Eligibility Test which allows eligibility to the lectureship besides the fellowship. This enables one to enter the teaching field in any of the colleges offering textile programs as Lecturer.
Independent work is another option. Freelancing work or initiating a business is an excellent source of income.
Payment in the field starts from Rs.5000 and above to the Diploma holders, depending on the position. The Graduates expect from Rs. 15000 and above.
