About CMAT Entrance Exam
CMAT or Common Management Aptitude Test is a national level online admission test conducted by the AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education). This bi-annual examination is held in the months of February and September. CMAT qualifies a candidate for admission to management courses (MBA or equivalent) in AICTE-approved B-schools and institutions across India.
Eligibility Criteria for CMAT Entrance Exam
MBA, PGDM and equivalent:
- Graduates (with a minimum 3 year degree) in all disciples and institutions recognized by the HRD ministry of the Government of India are eligible to appear for CMAT examinations
- Graduate students awaiting results are also eligible to apply for the examination.
- Applicants need to have a minimum aggregate of 50% of marks in the qualifying examination to apply for the CMAT exams.
- Candidates in the reserved category need to have a minimum aggregate of 45% of marks in the qualifying examination to apply for the CMAT exams.
PGCM:
- Graduates (with a minimum 3 year degree) in all disciples and institutions recognized by the HRD ministry of the Government of India are eligible to appear for CMAT examinations
- Graduate students awaiting results are also eligible to apply for the examination.

Executive PGDM:
- Graduates (with a minimum 3 year degree) in all disciples and institutions recognized by the HRD ministry of the Government of India are eligible to appear for CMAT examinations
- Relevant Supervisory or Managerial experience of not less than 5 years.
- Applicants need to have a minimum aggregate of 50% of marks in the qualifying examination to apply for the CMAT exams.
- Candidates in the reserved category need to have a minimum aggregate of 45% of marks in the qualifying examination to apply for the CMAT exams.
How to Apply for CMAT Entrance Exam
Candidates may apply online through the appropriate AICTE website. Exam fees can be paid online through Debit (ATM) Card, Credit Card or Net Banking. Alternatively, cash payment can be made at any branch of the State Bank of India, though a challan that has been generated online. Candidates may choose a maximum of 3 dates and 3 cities in their preferred order while filling the online application form.
CMAT Entrance Exam Pattern
The exam consists of 4 sections of 25 questions each. The total time allocated for the entire paper is 180 minutes. Candidates are free to allocate varying time per section by solving the easy questions first and then moving onto the more difficult ones. Section 1 has questions that test the candidates’ knowledge of Quantitative Techniques and Data Interpretation. Section 2 has questions on Logical Reasoning. The subject of the 3rd section is Language Comprehension. The final section is titled General Awareness and tests the General Knowledge of the candidate. Each incorrect answer results in 1 negative mark while each correct answer is worth 4 marks. The reporting time is 90 minutes before scheduled time of the examination.
CMAT Entrance Exam Syllabus
The exam syllabus for CMAT covers Mathematical Skills, English Comprehension, Logical Reasoning and General Awareness.
- Language Comprehension includes fill in the blanks, synonyms, antonyms, odd man out, reading comprehension and so on
- Quantitative Techniques and Data Interpretation involves skills like percentage, ratio, work & time, profit & loss, averages and so on.
- Logical Reasoning mathematical operations, coding & decoding, sitting arrangements, blood relations, sequencing and so on.
- General Awareness is based on general knowledge including science, technology, business, current affairs and so on.
