About PUTHAT Entrance Exam
The students who are interested to study for hotel management and tourism courses in Punjab need to know about entrance exam, PUTHAT. PUTHAT stands for Punjab University Tourism and Hospitality Aptitude Test which is conducted by Punjab University, once in a year in the month of May. The qualified candidates are offered admission in undergraduate courses like Hospitality & Hotel Administration, Hotel Management and Catering Technology, and Tourism and travel Management. The medium of entrance test is English only and not available in any state languages
PUTHAT Entrance Exam Eligibility Criteria
The candidate should be an Indian citizen is a prime eligibility criteria. The PUTHAT is open to all candidates who have cleared the 10+2 examination from institutes affiliated to central board of secondary education or from other recognized schools. An aggregate of 50% marks needs to be scored at the higher secondary level with English as a compulsory subject. The students of Mahila Gram Vidyapith, Allahabad is considered ineligible to appear in PUTHAT as per norms of Punjab University.

There is a close similarity between the aptitude test and entrance exam syllabus for PUTHAT. The major topics of reasoning, general knowledge and English language has to be made clear. The major difference from the usual aptitude test is by an additional section called hospitality industry awareness which is subject oriented.
How to apply for PUTHAT Entrance Exam
The initial stage of applying to PUTHAT by online method is the registration. This is to be done in the official website of Punjab university. A color photograph and signature of the candidate needs to be uploaded as part of registration. For fee payment SBI slip can be downloaded and the payment can be done in any of the SBI branches. A login ID and password will be obtained after registration, which is unavoidable for applying online. The details on how to apply will be given in detail, which has to be read and understand by the aspirant before filling the form. A hard copy of the submitted form should be retained for future use.
PUTHAT Entrance Exam pattern
The entrance exam pattern is quite simple with 100 multiple choice objective type questions. The total time allocated for PUTHAT is 90 minutes. Negative marking is applicable at a rate of 25% for the wrong answers. The four sections include English aptitude with 30 questions, Current affairs and General awareness, Reasoning ability with 20 questions each and finally Hospitality industry awareness with 30 questions. The answering is done by bubbling the OMR sheet using pencil.
