About XAT Entrance Exam
XAT or Xavier’s Aptitude Test is a national level admission test conducted by XLRI (Xavier Labour Relations Institute), Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. The offline exam is conducted annually and qualifies a candidate for admission to the prestigious XLRI management course as well as many other business schools in India. The exam is conducted in various cities in India as well as Dubai and Kathmandu

- Graduates in all disciples and institutions recognized by the HRD ministry of the Government of India are eligible to appear for XAT examinations
- Graduate students awaiting results are also eligible to apply for the examination.

How to Apply for XAT Entrance Exam
Candidates must apply online through the XLRI website. Exam fees can be paid through Debit (ATM) Card, Credit Card (only Visa and MasterCard), Net Banking (only IDBI Bank) or Crossed Demand Draft favoring ‘XLRI Jamshedpur A/c XAT’. Exam fees as cash payments are accepted at IDBI branches all over India. Scanned photograph, payment details (if cash payment or DD) and signature needs to be uploaded when filling in the form complete in all aspects. A printout of the confirmation page is recommended for future references. The DD along with a copy of the confirmation page should reach XLRI, Jamshedpur within 15 days of issuance of the draft. No other candidates are required to send the confirmation page.
XAT Entrance Exam Pattern
The exam consists of 3 objective type papers with multiple choice answers and one subjective paper. The number of questions and the time allocated for each section varies. Section 1 is titled ‘Decision Making’ and has 25 questions. Section 2 has 30 questions that test verbal and Logical ability of the candidate and the 3rd section has 36 questions that deal with Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation. These 3 sections togather are allotted a time of 140 minutes. The next section is titled Essay and General Awareness and needs to be completed in 40 minutes. There are 30 questions based on General knowledge and current affairs as well as an essay that needs to be compulsorily attempted. Each incorrect answer results in a negative mark of ¼th mark allotted to the question.
XAT Entrance Exam Syllabus
The exam syllabus for XAT covers graduate level quantitative ability, English comprehension & logical reasoning, decision making, general knowledge and current affairs. Equal importance is given to time and knowledge and hence specific time slots are allotted for each section. An essay is a compulsory part and rounds up the exam.
- Language Comprehension comprises of Grammar and English vocabulary including anonyms, synonyms, analogies, jumbled sentences, errors in punctuation and so on.
- Logical Reasoning comprises Verbal & Non Verbal Reasoning, Problems on Clock, Sitting Arrangements, family tree, sequencing coding & decoding, symbol based problems and Puzzles.
- Quantitative ability involves problems dealing with the number system, BODMAS percentage, work & time, profit & loss, geometric progression, permutations & combinations and height & distance.
- Decision Making has questions related to analyzing the situation and arriving at conclusions based on the data provided
- General knowledge and current affairs is a subjective paper that needs to be answered by the candidate along with an essay.
