The National Institute of Technology of Puducherry is situated at Karailkal. It is established in the year 2010. The institute is recognized as Institute of National Importance. It is known with the acronym NITPY. Currently, the college is functioning in a temporary campus at Karikal and soon would occupy its own campus situated in a nearby village to Karaikal.

The college offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral courses. B.Tech, M.Tech. and Ph.D. are the major programs that are offered. Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering and Mechanical Engineering are the major disciplines offered in B.Tech. There are around five departments.

Students who pass 10 + 2 with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English besides All India Rank in (JEE) Joint Entrance Examination Mains. The admission is based on 60% of JEE score and 40% of 10 + 2 score. NITPY provides reservation for OBC, SC and ST. The admission process also reserves 50% of the seats for the students who belong to Puducherry, Yanam and Andaman Nicobar. Remaining 50% seats are for the students of other states of India.
