Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) are institutes of higher education in India established, recognized, funded and managed by the Ministry of Human Resource Development of India. They are focused mainly on Information Technology. These IIIT’s offers undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD programs in courses related to IT like computer sciences, fields of design, electronics and communication, informatics to name a few. The addition of new IIITs as Institutes of National Importance is proposed under The Institutes of Information Technology Bill 2010, which was passed later in 2014 and four MHRD funded IIIT’s were given the status of Institutes of National Importance. In order to make India an IT hub, there is a proposal in the budget for establishment of twenty more IIIT’s for every major state of India that are fully autonomous and under Public- Private partnership model.
