Meghalaya is one of the “seven sisters” states in the North East Region of India. Though the state is very small, it has a few educational institutions of repute like the Institutes of National Importance. They are The Indian Institute of Management and the National Institute of Technology.
The Central Universities in Meghalaya
There are two central Universities in Meghalaya of which one is for Agriculture. The university is a combined university for all the 7 states of the North Eastern Region. Extensive academic courses and research programs are conducted here.

The other Central University for the North Eastern Hill Region has been established with two campuses in Meghalaya. It is a regional university for the North Eastern States. Apart from the usual Arts, Sciences and commerce courses, it also conducts a variety of courses in Engineering, Management, Environment Sciences, Education, and Rural Development. There are also two law colleges affiliated to this university. There have a number of colleges spread across the state that are affiliated to the university.
The University of Technology and Management has the distinction of being the first university in the country to introduce the subject of Cloud Computing as part of its course offered.
One of the highly ranked management colleges is present in Shillong affiliated to this university of Technology and Management. The university is now a part of the network of the Laureate International universities.
Among the Universities in Meghalaya there is a private university which is ranked high in India. A number of colleges affiliated to the unvisteristy is spread out across the state, which offers a large number of courses, both degree and diploma courses are conducted in the Engineering colleges and in the three polytechnics all of which are approved by the All India Council of Technical Education. There are other courses in Business studies, applied sciences, Humanities and Education.
