Mizoram is one of the “Seven Sisters” States in the North Eastern Region of India. The meaning of Mizoram is “land of the hill people”. Since 95% of population of Mizoram consists of tribal people, it is the state with the highest tribal population.

It has seven departments functioning with more than 30 disciplines of study offered. Apart from General education, the university has two professional colleges affiliated to it.
The other Universities in Mizoram include the Agricultural University. There are seven colleges affiliated to the Agricultural University offering courses in various allied disciplines. Some of the course include Animal husbandry, fisheries, forestry, horticulture and veterinary sciences. The Agricultural University not only serves Mizoram but also the other 6 states of the North east region.
